The invention of the vibrator

Vibrators were invented in the 19th century to treat women with anxiety and a diagnosis of hysteria. The "father" of the vibrator is the Englishman Joseph Mortimer Grenville, who patented his electromechanical invention called the "hammer" in 1880: a medical instrument powered by a generator. It was a mini-drill with a small ball at the end.
