Scientists are developing antimicrobial packaging for food. Someday, we may be able to store food in 'smart' packaging that makes products safer and more beneficial. The scientists envision packaging consisting of nanogels, nanoemulsions, and biodegradable films. They want the development to have antioxidant properties and protect food from microbes. Experts plan to extract bioactive substances from birch bark, red pepper, turmeric, rosemary, and pomegranate peel. According to the scientists, the 'chemistry' will also be 'green'.
