Light-Controlled Cyber-Cockroaches Developed by Japanese

May 31, 2025

Japanese researchers have developed 'cyber-cockroaches' controlled by light. The reason is that these bugs hate ultraviolet light: if you shine it into their left eye, they turn right, and vice versa. Utilizing this, scientists have created tiny backpacks with LEDs and can now direct them where needed. Unlike control via electric shocks, this method is less harmful to the insects and can be used for finding survivors under debris and more.
