Sex or masturbation before bed improves sleep quality – officially. The study involved 7 sexually active couples of the same age. Each couple spent nights under three different conditions: without sexual activity, masturbating before sleep, or having sex with a partner. Participants wore wireless headbands that recorded brain activity, movements, and breathing throughout the night. Sleep efficiency on nights after sex or masturbation was higher than when there was no sex. Participants who had sex went to bed later, but fell asleep faster and the total sleep duration was even longer.
