The Wall Street Journal discovered that a smiling emoji in business correspondence is considered an expression of passive aggression. The publication surveyed young employees - they view this smiley as a sign of insincerity or hidden contempt. Employees over 30, however, continue to use it to create a relaxed atmosphere in their correspondence.
