Humanity has explored only ~0.001% of ocean depths

Scientists have calculated that humanity has explored only ~0.001% of ocean depths. From 1958 to the present, 44,000 deep-sea dives have visually examined only 3,823 km² of the seafloor, with 97% of expeditions conducted by just five countries: the USA, Japan, New Zealand, France, and Germany. Even if the pace were increased a thousandfold, it would take about 100,000 years to survey the remaining areas.
