Gum Releases Thousands of Microplastic Particles

March 27, 2025

Gum releases thousands of microplastic particles - all of which end up in our bodies. One piece of chewing gum can release up to 3000 microplastic particles. And it doesn’t matter if the gum is natural or synthetic. They all release polymers such as polyolefin, PET, polyacrylamides, and polystyrene. Another point: the more often you change the gum, the more microplastic enters your body.
