March 24, 2025

Mont-Saint-Michel is an amazing island fortress off the northwest coast of France, sometimes surrounded by water and at other times standing amidst sand. According to legend, the castle was built in 708 at the behest of the Archangel Michael, and by the 20th century, it became one of the first sites listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Twice a day, Mont-Saint-Michel experiences some of the highest tides in Europe, and it is visited by over 3 million tourists annually.
