In the 1960s, an unusual device for pregnant women was invented—a rotating table to speed up childbirth. The mother was strapped in, the table spun, and the child flew into a net. This was invented by the couple George and Charlotte Blonsky, who had no children or medical experience. They were inspired by an elephant in the zoo that spun around before giving birth. Despite obtaining a patent, no one dared to try this contraption on humans.
