February 24, 2025

In China's Taklamakan Desert, Asia's deepest and the world's second deepest borehole 'Shendi-1' has been drilled, reaching 10,910 meters underground. The implementation of the project took a year and 270 days: currently, the borehole is second only to the Kola Superdeep Borehole (12,265 meters), which was drilled in the Murmansk region over 22 years. It will be used to study the evolution of the planet and search for oil and gas resources.
