BMW Chief Calls for Scrapping EU's Ban on Petrol Cars

October 17, 2024

The BMW chief urged the cancellation of the European Union's future ban on the sale of petrol cars, despite increasing deliveries of electric BMWs and Minis. The zero-emission law, set to come into effect in 2035, is "virtually unrealistic" under current conditions and "threatens the heart of the European car industry," Oliver Zipse said at the Paris Motor Show. Earlier, the Italian Prime Minister called the EU ban "self-destructive," and the head of the French automotive association suggested revising the law's norms.
