Scientists Create €3 Million Kamikaze Satellite

October 1, 2024

Scientists are creating a €3 million kamikaze satellite, whose sole mission is to burn up in the atmosphere immediately after launch. The mission is planned for 2027 and is organized by the European Space Agency. The main goal is to study in detail how the device will break apart, in order to create easily disintegrating satellites in the future and reduce the amount of debris in orbit. For this purpose, the washing machine-sized satellite will be equipped with 200 sensors, four cameras, and an ultra-protected black box that can store all data.
