Isolated Machco Piro Tribe Emerges from Peruvian Jungle

July 21, 2024

The Machco Piro tribe of 750 people, who had until now lived without contact with the outside world, has emerged from the jungle in Peru for the first time due to the approaching loggers near their territories. The human rights organization Survival International has called for an immediate halt to logging and for the protection of the tribe. If the loggers do not stop, the rainforests will soon be unable to generate enough rainfall to sustain their ecosystems.
