The Sword Durendal Stolen in France

In France, someone has stolen the sword Durendal, which had been sticking out of a stone for almost 1000 years, much like King Arthur's sword. There is an entire poem, 'The Song of Roland', about the sword, describing a warrior who sacrificed his life to save many comrades and then thrust the blade into the stone so it wouldn't fall into enemy hands. But a thousand years later, some clever individuals managed to retrieve it despite the chain binding the sword to the stone.
