Japanese Scientists Set New Fiber Optic Data Transmission Record

July 3, 2024

Scientists from Japan have set a new record for data transmission over fiber optic cables at 402 Tbps. Simply put, the team enhanced standard fiber optic cables with new types of amplifiers, significantly increasing capacity and avoiding losses. While this has only been tested under laboratory conditions so far, in the near future, it's possible that at least half of this network speed could become a reality.
