Scientists have found 860 thousand potential antibiotics using machine learning. The researchers have compiled a catalog called AMPSphere, which includes 863,498 potential antimicrobial peptides. Most of them are not present in existing databases to date. To confirm the concept, the researchers synthesized and tested 100 peptides. 79 of them showed antimicrobial activity, with 63 specifically targeting highly pathogenic antibiotic-resistant bacteria.
