Elephants give each other names

June 14, 2024

Scientists have discovered that elephants give each other names. They analyzed hundreds of records from Kenya, in which elephants were calling each other. Using machine learning, they were able to identify the names of individual elephants. They then played these names to the elephants and noticed that they responded clearly to specific names. The scientists are now planning to learn how to communicate with elephants in order to warn them about danger and poachers.
