Increase in Hemolytic Streptococcus Cases in Japan

According to the Institute of Infectious Diseases in Japan, the country has recorded 801 cases of hemolytic streptococcus infection since the beginning of 2024, which is 2.76 times higher than the same period last year. However, in the entire year of 2023, only 941 cases were detected. The reasons for the increase in incidence have not been identified. Severe cases of hemolytic streptococcus infection can lead to necrosis of the hands and feet, as well as fatal outcomes.
