plastic pollution at the ocean bottom is hundreds of times worse than on the surface

A new study has revealed that there is up to 11 million tons of plastic at the bottom of the ocean, hundreds of times more than on the surface. Scientists utilized existing scientific data from underwater research to build two predictive models and assess the amount and distribution of plastic on the ocean floor. It turns out that around 46% of the predicted plastic mass underwater is found at depths less than 200 meters. The rest of the waste is located at depths ranging from 200 to 11,000 meters.
