Invasion of Trillions of Cicadas Expected in the United States

American scientists have calculated that the United States is facing an invasion of hundreds of trillions of cicadas. This year, the 13-year and 17-year life cycles of two large populations will coincide. Scientists are bewildered by the mystery of the synchronous birth of cicadas. These winged insects are capable of spending years forming underground, only to reveal themselves to the world at once. It is expected that there will be a million insects per acre.
