Introduction to Pornography: How Boys and Girls Encounter It

Scientists have described how boys and girls are introduced to pornography. The first encounters with porn happen at a fairly young age, several years before the start of sexual life. For boys, this usually occurs at the age of 14 on average, while for girls it happens at 13.2 years. Nearly half of the respondents who mentioned that their encounter with pornographic materials happened accidentally stumbled upon them on the internet, either through search results or pop-up windows. Approximately 55% of male respondents reported watching porn at least once a week, with 16% doing it on a daily basis. The proportion of girls doing so was much lower: 14.3% and 1.4% respectively.
