As we age, certain areas of the brain work better. Neurobiologists have examined brain scans of different age groups and found that over time, connections in the brain weaken overall but strengthen between the frontal lobes. This part of the brain plays a major role in higher cognitive functions. Such changes may potentially compensate for declines occurring in other areas of the brain.
