Chimpanzees Can Remember Relatives After Decades, Scientists Discover

December 23, 2023

Scientists have found that chimpanzees can remember their relatives even after several decades. The researchers conducted experiments on 26 animals from zoos, ranging in age from 2 to 46 years old. These primates had previously been separated from a family member due to various circumstances. The familiar faces of their relatives captured more attention from the primates. On average, they would gaze at their photos for about a quarter of a second longer than pictures of unfamiliar monkeys.
