Scientists have found that the risk of developing schizophrenia is twice as high for 25-year-old cat owners compared to individuals without pets. This conclusion was drawn after analyzing approximately 17 studies conducted by scientists from 11 countries around the world. It is linked to the presence of the parasite Toxoplasma gondii in furry companions, which, upon entering the human body, can affect neurotransmitters in the brain, leading to personality changes and mental disorders such as schizophrenia.
