Wild chimpanzees have been observed experiencing menopause for the first time. Zoologists have been studying a large group of chimpanzees in Uganda for nearly 30 years and have discovered that humans are not the only mammals to continue living after their reproductive period ends. Researchers are still unsure of the reasons behind the existence of menopause in chimpanzees. It is believed that in humans, it is evolutionarily explained by the assistance in raising grandchildren.
