Neglected dental treatment leads to heart complications

October 7, 2023

A man who had neglected dental treatment for several years ended up in the hospital with an inflamed heart muscle. He visited doctors complaining of shortness of breath, only to discover that he had severe heart failure and inflammation of the heart's valve apparatus. The doctors began investigating the cause and found out that the man had not treated his cavities for several years. Numerous bacteria had accumulated in his mouth, entered his body, and caused the inflammation. Dentists removed the infected teeth, which improved the patient's condition, but the damage to the heart was irreversible. It was necessary to implant an aortic valve prosthesis.
