Man Receives Pig Heart in Second Historic Transplant

A 58-year-old American man, Lawrence Faucett, needed an urgent heart transplant, but his condition prevented him from receiving a human donor organ. In a unique procedure, surgeons from the University of Maryland implanted a genetically modified pig organ into the patient. Remarkably, the man is not experiencing acute rejection of the transplant and remains conscious, able to breathe and communicate with his loved ones.
