Swimming in the Seine will be allowed again in Paris after a 100-year ban.

August 4, 2023

This was made possible thanks to a large-scale project to clean up the river, implemented on the eve of the Olympic Games. Three Olympic and Paralympic events - triathlon, marathon swimming and paratriathlon - are planned to be held on the Seine in central Paris. By 2025, three open-air swimming areas will open on the river. The renewed river will also take part in the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games. A flotilla of 160 boats carrying 10,000 athletes to the Eiffel Tower will pass through it.
