Scientists have proposed protecting Tibetan glaciers with a reflective film.

The Dagu glacier, where the experiments took place, has lost 70% of its mass over the past 50 years. At the same time, it provides drinking water and electricity to the inhabitants of the Tibetan Plateau. The researchers hope that a film made of cellulose acetate, a natural fiber from plants, will help slow the warming. In hard-to-reach places, the substance can also be sprayed using drones. The experiment will last from three to five years. During this time, scientists will collect water samples to study the impact of the coating on the environment.
