A new type of eco-burial has appeared - the dissolution of a corpse in alkali.

July 10, 2023

Funeralcare, the UK's largest funeral home, has launched a new kind of sustainable burial - resomation. This is the dissolution of the body in an alkaline solution at 160°C, during which the remains turn into a liquid. The bones of the deceased remaining after resomation are crushed into powder and given to relatives, the liquid is poured into drainage water - it is harmless. This method produces half the carbon footprint of cremation.
