The NYPD has begun using robots to fight crime.

April 25, 2023

Spot or Digidog is a remote-controlled four-legged robot designed to work in situations that are dangerous for people. The robot is controlled remotely and can be used in situations that are dangerous for ordinary police officers, for example, when taking hostages. They, among other things, will be engaged in patrolling the city subway. The city police will buy two Spots for a total of $750,000. This is the second attempt to launch such a robot into the police service. The first, undertaken two and a half years ago under former New York Mayor Bill de Blasio, culminated in the winding down of the project after the public called it "terrifying" and "apocalyptic."
