An international team of scientists has found that one of the reasons for the decline of the Mayan civilization about 1.1 thousand years ago could be a decrease in the predictability of seasonal rains. Agriculture depended heavily on them, and because of droughts, famine began. The famine affected the Mayan population. For a century and a half, representatives of civilization have become 60-70% less from the original 5-10 million people.
