Scientists have created a new medicine based on gold.

It kills dangerous superbugs. The scientists studied the activity of 19 gold-based compounds against a range of multidrug-resistant bacteria. All of them proved to be effective for at least some types of microorganisms. The substances use a variety of methods to kill bacteria, including stopping enzymes, disrupting bacterial membrane function, and damaging their DNA.
