Since 2001, the area of mountain forests on the planet has decreased by 7% - that is, by 78 million hectares, which is one and a half to two times the size of Germany or France. At the same time, in recent years, the loss of mountain forests has accelerated by 2.7 times. Approximately half of the losses are accounted for by logging - 42%, fires destroyed another 29% of the lost mountain forests. Somewhere between 10% and 15% fall on human activities related to agriculture.
