Scientists have proven that water on Earth originated from interstellar space.

This happened more than five billion years ago - before the sun appeared. This discovery will serve as the basis for the search for other habitable planets containing water. Astronomers have captured traces of water vapor surrounding the young star V883 Orionis, located about 1,300 light-years from Earth. Its composition is very similar to water found in other bodies in our solar system. The protostar V883 Orionis is surrounded by a mixture of gas and dust known as the protoplanetary disk. Ultimately, comets, planets and other celestial bodies may appear from it.
