For the first time in human history, artificial blood was transfused.

November 8, 2022

Red blood cells were grown from human blood samples from the UK National Health Service donor database. First, stem cells were isolated from the biomaterial, and then they were differentiated. Unlike ordinary ones, all artificial erythrocytes are young - in the real blood of donors there are cells of different ages. Volunteers received 5-10 milliliters of liquid with them - 1-2 teaspoons. Artificial red blood cells can be transfused to people with anemia and other blood diseases, as well as to patients with rare groups.
