A team of researchers managed to reach the tallest tree in the Amazon. This is an 88.5 meter tall specimen of the Dinizia excelsa, which grows in the north of Brazil. The record-breaking tree was discovered during the analysis of data collected back in 2019 using a lidar mounted on an airplane, but it was not possible to find it among the jungle until three years later. The tallest tree in the world is considered to be a copy of the evergreen sequoia (Sequoia sempervirens) nicknamed Hyperion, which grows in Redwood National Park in northern California. Its height reaches about 116 meters.
