Ancient aqueducts in Italy want to adapt to combat climate change.

Scientists and architects from Italy and the United States are developing a project that will allow cooling Naples with the help of ancient aqueducts hidden underground. The century-old infrastructure will help fight the extreme heat that threatens the lives of citizens. Researchers are using laser scanning technology to map Naples' aqueduct system and underground canals. As conceived by the authors of the project, part of the water in the aqueducts can be directed to new green areas of the city, which will also contribute to its cooling.
