The Japanese taught the robot to laugh at jokes.

Japanese scientists have created an artificial intelligence system for a humanoid android named Erika to naturally respond to the laughter of the interlocutor. Now the robot can decide whether to laugh back and what type of laugh is appropriate for a particular situation. The naturalness and appropriateness of Erica's laughter was appreciated by 130 volunteers who were given the recordings to listen to. Most of them felt that the android showed empathy, humanity and understanding.
