NTU scientists have introduced a robot to prevent falls in the elderly.

The robot consists of a wheeled battery base that is connected to a padded seat belt worn around the user's hips. While the person walks, the robot follows him. Using a depth-sensing camera and other sensors, it is able to recognize control movements that indicate a sudden loss of balance by the user. When this happens, it stops and fixes the straps, preventing the user from falling. In addition to assisting in everyday life, the robot can be used in rehabilitation medicine, supporting the user when he learns to walk again. It is reported that in the near future the MRBA will be improved to an industrial prototype.
