Causes of Heavy Vaginal Discharge
Some vaginal discharge is beneficial – it helps keep the vagina clean and naturally lubricated, and is also a product of arousal and ovulation. However, if there is an unusually large amount of discharge, it may be a sign of an infection, pregnancy, hormonal fluctuations, or another issue that requires treatment. On average, a woman produces about one teaspoon of discharge per day. For some women, the amount of discharge may be higher than this, which is normal. But if the amount of vaginal discharge does not conform to the usual norm, it may be cause for concern.
